A Year in Review

December 16, 2007

January: I (Sara) ran my ½ marathon in Carlsbad with Team-In-Training. My mom, dad, Aunt Debbie and Marisa all came down to watch me run. It was quite the experience… one that I’ll probably never do again. ☺

February: I went to visit my best friend Lyndsey in Colorado for a few days! We had a lot of fun. I also celebrated my 24th birthday with family and friends.

.

March: Matt celebrated his 26th birthday by going out to Buca di Beppo with friends and finishing the evening at 21 Choices. YUM! Matt finished his second quarter of seminary.

April: WE MOVED! Only a few floors down, but into a bigger apartment. We actually have a bedroom door now and it’s amazing!

May: In May we found out that my brother and sister-in-law (Steve and Norma) are expecting their third baby, due in January. We are very excited about baby Ezekiel! Matt and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary. AND we saw Wicked with our friends Cody and Anna. It is a must see musical!!!

June: I ended my first year at La Canada High School (LCHS) as a Sign Language Interpreter for a deaf student. Matt finished his first year (well almost) at Fuller. And June started the season of Weddings! We went to Jon and Shannon Foster’s wedding where Matt was a groomsman. In the same weekend, Steve, Joni and Macy (Matt’s brother’s family) and Kristi (Matt’s youngest sister) came down south and we all went to Brett and Megan Coppenger’s wedding. It was a lot of FUN! We sat right next to the candy bar. Mmmmmmm!
July: On the 4th of July we went to the Hollywood Bowl with Aunt Debbie and Marisa for music and fireworks and some good eattin’! Two weeks later we made another trip up to Fresno for another special wedding.

Alicha (one of my best friends from high school) married Jason Ekk. It was a beautiful… and long… day! Matt and I also got to see Jamie Cullum perform at the Hollywood Bowl later in the month! Good times!

August: was a busy month!! My best friend, Jen, got married to Andrew Munoz! Her dress was amazing! After her wedding, I went to San Francisco for the national RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Conference. I was there for a long week and when I came back to Fresno, my parents drove me down to Pasadena. Matt and I quickly did laundry and packed so that we could fly to Canada to visit Matt’s grandparents (Oma and Opa) and his sister and brother-in-law, Joe and Heidi for two weeks. Matt was asked to speak at a week long summer camp for grades 7-9 that was directed by Joe and Heidi. It was an amazing experience! And it was here at this camp that Matt started to feel called to junior high ministry. Crazy, right? We got back from Canada and I accepted a job to be the head coach of LCHS girls Freshman/Sophomore girls volleyball (Frosh/Soph VB).

September: LCHS started for me, yet again, as well as volleyball season! I was busy, busy, busy!! In September we also announced out pregnancy!! The baby is due April 7th, 2008. Matt started his 2nd year of seminary and ended his job as a pool boy.We went to our 4th wedding of the year, Randy and Melissa Hill’s! They were married at Ragged Point, near San Simeon. It was beautiful and windy day.

October: we went to our 5th wedding. Matt was one of Nick and Denise Torstensen’s groomsmen. And he was so handsome. It was a fabulous wedding!

A week or two later Steve, Joni and Macy came down to So Cal and we went to Disneyland. It was a long but fun and incredibly windy day!! Darn those Santa Ana’s!

November: ended my volleyball season. But I can’t wait to do it again next year! It also ended the wedding season. We went to our 6th and final wedding, Vic and Erin Gunn’s. It was a fun wedding, full of dancing and good memories. The week before Matt and I found out the sex of our baby… IT’S A BOY! And we are thrilled beyond measure!! We stayed in Fresno the week of Thanksgiving and relaxed with friends and family. Steve and Joni announced they are pregnant and due in June! We are so excited for all these babies!! At the end of the month, Matt got an opportunity to speak to a Junior and Senior High youth group. He did very well and I am very proud of him.

December: Matt has finished his 5th quarter at Fuller (only 1 ½ year to go!) and is applying to churches for his internship. We are hopeful!! He is now helping me get the apartment ready for the baby—and I’m still working. Christmas break doesn’t start ‘til the 21st, so we’re stuck here until then. But I am looking forward to Christmas and spending time with friends and family!!

I hope you have enjoyed reading our blog. I intend to keep it updated, especially with baby Jackson on the way. God has been good to us this year and we pray our hearts would continue to worship him as we go through this Holiday Season.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Final Numbers…

December 12, 2007

So I just completed my finals for the Fall quarter and can’t wait to begin my 4 weeks of “vacation”. Just a few numbers to crunch for some perspective:

Papers Written:

  • Family Systems — 3
  • Systematics — 4
  • Exegetical Methods — 5

Total Pages Written:

  • Family Systems — 27
  • Systematics — 31
  • Exegetical Methods — 30

Pages (allegedly) Read:

  • Family Systems — 1200
  • Systematics — 1420
  • Exegetical Methods — 500

Hours playing Dr. Mario:

  • Too many to calculate

So now that classes are over I’ve enjoyed a few days of no homework and been able to watch TV without the guilt of knowing I should be reading/studying/doing homework. My days now consist of getting up with Sara every morning to make her breakfast and lunch to take to work and these past few days rearranging the apartment and preparing for Christmas.

Keep it real!

Pregnancy Update

December 6, 2007

Being 22 weeks pregnant (almost 23) has its ups and downs. I get this weekly “newsletter” from BabyCenter.com explaining things like how big the baby is, what my body is going through, how much weight I should have gained, etc. Well recently my “newsletter” mentioned that I could start having leg cramps. Actually, it didn’t specify leg, but that’s what I assumed. And sure enough tonight I had my very first leg cramp! That SOB hurt!! I woke up from a somewhat peaceful nap on the couch, stretched out my long legs… and POW! “OW OW OW OW OW” Matt quickly came over to see what was wrong… Poor guy, he had no idea. But there was nothing he could do, except stair at me, hoping to help in some way, shape or form. Finally, my cramp subsided–but holy crap! does my leg still hurt. It’s still sore, like I went to the gym and did calf raises.

Other than cramps in my leg, the pregnancy is going a long just fine. If you didn’t notice on my quote, we’re having a BOY! Matt and I are very excited!! And he is a very active boy. (The baby. Not Matt, in case you were confused.) I can feel him move all over the place. And he tends to move when I’m trying to fall asleep… how ’bout that! He’s probably going to be a soccer player or a gymnast-I swear he does back flips in my uterus.

I have 5 months down… 4ish more to go!
